How To Apply

Applications for the summer 2019 program are now under review. Candidates selected for interviews will be contacted on a rolling basis from mid February to mid March

The Hertog War Studies Program is open to talented rising juniors and seniors and college graduates for the year in which the program occurs who have an interest in military history, national security and/or international affairs that can be demonstrated through their program of study, extra-curricular activities, or participation in national service.  Exceptional rising sophomores will be considered.  Applications for the 2019 program, however, have closed.

A typical student will have a minimum GPA of 3.75, and students with a GPA below 3.5 will not be considered. The ideal candidate will plan to use the knowledge they gain in this program to develop a career in the military, foreign service, government, or the academic study of military history and international affairs.

Applications for the summer 2019 program are now being accepted and will close February 11th.  Notification of successful interviews will occur in March.

How to apply:

Please name these files using your last name and the type of document (e.g., Miller_resume.pdf or Miller_stmt.pdf).

  • War Studies is an interdisciplinary program and we seek applicants from many disciplines, not just history, political science, or international relations. Successful past participants have also majored in philosophy, math, computer science, engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, literature, foreign languages and literature, political theory, classics, and pyschology.
  • Send your best writing sample, not your most relevant writing sample.
